EAPN Ireland’s submission to the Government’s 2018 National Reform Programme provides it’s analysis of how Ireland is performing against the targets it has set under Europe 2020 strategy including targets for poverty reduction, employment and education. It raises concerns about the high levels of poverty, particularly for some groups in society. It outlines policy changes needed to achieve this and the other targets in a way which benefits all in society. A key concern for EAPN Ireland continues to be the need for a balanced economic and social approach and in practical terms for poverty impact assessment to ensure all policy supports a reduction in poverty and social exclusion. The submission also outlines proposals for ensuring Ireland raises its taxation levels in a progressive way so that it has the resources necessary to fund the social protection system and quality public services needed to ensure a decent society which benefits everyone.
