Six steps to a more equal and inclusive Ireland

In a presentation to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection today, the European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN) Ireland pointed to the increase in poverty and deprivation in the most recent CSO statistics.

EAPN Ireland presented six steps to a more equal and inclusive Ireland:

1. Poverty and equality proofing all policy and spending decisions
2. Maintaining and increasing welfare supports to a level where they lift people out of poverty.
3. Prioritising investment in universal services, including childcare, education, accommodation, health and transport
4. Systematically removing poverty traps,
5. Strengthening support for community development
6. Increasing the overall tax take to closer to EU average levels
