The Better Europe Alliance has made a submission on the Mid-term Review of the Europe 2020 Strategy to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs.
The key issue raised is that the priority given to addressing budget deficits through austerity since the beginning of the Europe 2020 strategy has undermined social and environmental goals and that it is crucial that equal priority is given to economic, environmental and social objectives of Europe 2020. The Submission makes a range of recommendations on strengthening Europe 2020 delivers on its commitments on the environment, employment, education and poverty and social exclusion.
