EAPN Ireland today presented proposals for Budget 2015 to the Department of Social Protection’s Pre-Budget Forum in Dublin Castle. Included in its submission are proposals to increase social welfare levels to better meet the actual cost of living and to improve the process of poverty proofing policies before they are finalised.
The Proposals are being made in the context where poverty levels have continued to increase with 1.2 million people or 27% of the Irish population now experiencing deprivation. A large percentage of these people are also at work highlighting the need to address the causes in work poverty. The submission includes proposals to address issues for specific groups such as lone-parents, asylum seekers, people with disabilities and older people.
